Mutual effect of Covid-19 and air pollutants in Tehran

Due to the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus (Covid-19 disease) in the world, it is important to study the effect of this disease on air pollutants and the effect of air pollutants on spreading and mortality of Covid-19 to improve public health. This study aims to investigate the effect of lockdown on air quality in Tehran as well as the effect of meteorological parameters and pollutant concentrations on deaths and hospitalizations due to Covid-19 disease. The results showed that the concentration of pollutants during the outbreak period has decreased compared to the same period in previous years. Therefore, with the announcement of the restrictions, the traffic of light and heavy fleets has been reduced and is one of the factors reducing the measured concentration of pollutants in Tehran. On the other hand, the correlation coefficients between pollutants and meteorological parameters with hospitalization and mortality due to Covid-19 disease was stronger in autumn and winter. During these seasons, both the pollutant concentrations and the meteorological conditions are critical, so it has a negative effect on mortality and hospitalization due to the Coronavirus.
