 Tehran Municipality participated in the International Forum of People’s Diplomacy on Peace and Mutual Understanding in the ۲۱st Century

On the occasion of the International Day of Cities on October 31 th, 2021, the Deputy International Affairs of the Municipality of Tehran participated in the International Forum of People’s Diplomacy on "Peace and Mutual Understanding in the ۲۱st Century", which was organized by the Municipality of Volgograd, Russia in cooperation with the Mayors for Peace (MFP), Japan. During this meeting, first the Secretary General of MFP spoke about the future strategic plan of the organization, then a question and answer session was held with the presence of the Chairman of the Volgograd City Council.

Dr. Hamidreza Gholamzadeh, International Affairs Deputy of the Municipality of Tehran, who had attended the meeting on behalf of Tehran as the Iranian lead city of MFP, emphasized that the peaceful administration of Tehran has always been one of the priorities of the city’s management. Moreover, he explained some of the activities of the Municipality of Tehran and the Iranian Secretariat of MFP in promoting a culture of peace including membership of 1016 Iranian cities in MFP and formation of a network of representatives from Iranian municipalities to encourage them to hold events and related training courses.

Furthermore, Dr. Gholamzadeh mentioned some of the municipality of Tehran’s efforts to deal with challenges resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic including those efforts aimed at preventing the spread of the disease and increasing solidarity among citizens. He named some of the Municipality's activities such as offering full services of Tehran’s health centers, holding online concerts to boost the vitality of the citizens, training more than 100 volunteer counselors and psychologists to provide services to citizens, daily disinfection of public transportation units and establishment of vaccination centers for all citizens including documented and undocumented immigrants and refugees.

The meeting was held online in English, Russian and Spanish with the presence of representatives from the city councils and municipalities of some member cities of MFP such as Manchester, Hannover, Granollers, Volgograd, Hiroshima and Bangkok.
